For thirty five years the Carribbean nation of the Dominican Republic has been home to the Timberland Yellow Boot. The factory – a collection of plants features some of the best footwear craftsmen and craftswomen in the world. It was a natural choice, therefore, when we were looking for a home for this project.
Plant 11, otherwise known as the DYO plant (Design Your Own) is like a microcosm of the factory at large; all the skills are concentrated in one place, from leather cutting, to stitching and everything in between.
The makers at the plant were the backbone to the project; from pattern maker Rocio Alvarez, boot craftsman Bolivar Fernandez, Juan Carlos Guzman, Clara Tovarez, Felipe Henriquez, Cesar Martinez and many many more, their skills brought this project to life. All hail the makers.
